About Us

Our Story

Macenta looks to the future.

We started out as the Istanbul agent for Macmillan Education in 2006, and we were one of the first companies to bring digital learning tools to the Turkey English Language Teaching sector in 2007. We continue to work with the world’s best-known brands in digital learning solutions.

From 2012 to 2016, we were the exclusive agent in Turkey for Oxford University Press UK curriculum materials (Ed-UK), again helping our schools move forward towards an EMI teaching approach.

But from the very beginning, what we really wanted was to produce local publishing at international standards for Turkish needs. In 2010, the dream became reality when we published Minigon, a story-based ELT skills programme for kindergarten. Minigon made a big splash with its great illustrations by Erdil Yaşaroğlu and songs performed by Yaşar, Demet Sağıroğlu, Kenan Vural and Yıldız Asyalı. Seven years later, Minigon is still being used in schools that started with it in 2010, and it continues to be adopted by new institutions each year.

That was our first publishing project and we have never looked back.

While we continue to be one of the biggest providers of digital learning solutions and authentic materials for institutions and libraries in Turkey, recently our focus has shifted.

Customised Learning Solutions

In 2015, we decided to take the next step: customised learning materials. This is when the DEPP project was born. DEPP stands for the “Designing English Practice Programme”, and that’s exactly what we did. In consultation with individual institutions, we began to design English language practice materials that are in line with the needs and curriculum of each school. In the first year of DEPP, we worked with a team of 25 qualified and experienced Turkish and international educators, graphic designers, editors and proof-readers. By the end of 2016, this team had grown to include 145 people. We are currently working with 30 institutions all over Turkey and 90,000 English language learners are using DEPP practice materials.

We also work with a team of experienced teacher trainers, who provide workshops based on a needs analysis of your ELT department. We offer coaching for school leaders, and support for curriculum design.

Our Aim

At Macenta, our aim is to be a solutions partner for institutions, teachers, students and parents. We want to know what your school needs, how you market yourselves, what your curriculum is, and your educational philosophy. When we know these things, we are committed to providing your school with the right learning materials to support your learners, your teachers and your vision.

Social Responsibility

We’re going to be honest - we love what we do. But we’re not in this job only because we love it; we want to take a responsible role in education in Turkey as well. We want to put something back into the community and we want to help you do it, too. That’s why we are proud to be the main educational sponsor of İhtiyac Haritası, an organisation that matches people in need in Turkey with people who want to help. Follow this link to find out how you can help.

Our People and Your People

Macenta knows education. Most of our core team has on average 10 years’ experience in ELT teaching and learning, and our directors have been in the local and international ELT publishing business for nearly 20 years. We understand the joys and the challenges you face every day because we have been in that classroom, too.
